Drysdale Leopold Pony Club was founded by local horse-loving families looking for a place to ride and connect. What started on the banks of Lake Lorne, complete with low-hanging trees and a whole lot of enthusiasm, soon became a thriving, community-driven club.
In the early years, members rode from neighbouring towns, picking each other up along the way, with the occasional pony arriving in the back of a station wagon! Families worked together to build the grounds, clubrooms, and the cross-country course from scratch.
From sleepover camps and trail rides to fox hunts and rally days, the club has always been about more than just riding, it’s about having fun, making memories, and growing in confidence.
At Drysdale/Leopold Pony Club, our calendar is packed with opportunities for riders to learn, compete, and have fun.
Our monthly rallies are held on the first Sunday of every month and are the heart of our club. They bring together members of all ages and skill levels for a full day of riding lessons, mounted activities, and horse care education under the guidance of experienced instructors. Rallies are a great way to develop skills, build confidence, and share the joy of riding with friends.
Alongside our rallies, we’re proud to host and take part in major equestrian events, including:
Barwon Equestrian Dressage Series (BEDS) – A showcase of precision, discipline, and harmony between horse and rider.
Barwon Equestrian Show Jumping Tournament (BEST) – Thrilling competition over a variety of jumps, testing accuracy, speed, and partnership.
Whether you’re attending a rally, competing in a tournament, or cheering from the sidelines, our events are welcoming, supportive, and always full of community spirit.
Important information for prospective members is outlined below. We request that all individuals interested in joining attend one of our monthly rallies, held on the first Sunday of each month (excluding January), to observe club activities without their horses. During your visit, you are encouraged to speak with committee members, observe the different groups and instructors, and make use of our canteen facilities.
Following this initial visit, we recommend participating in a "Come and Try" rally with your horse. This event provides an opportunity to determine if Pony Club membership aligns with your interests. Please consult a committee member for further details regarding this process.
DLPC is committed to the values of sportsmanship, tolerance, inclusion, and kindness. Members are expected to embody these principles and encourage fellow riders to do the same. Each rider progresses at their own pace, and support and encouragement from all participants are essential. The club prioritises maintaining a safe and positive atmosphere for every rider, regardless of skill level. The welfare of both riders and their horses is paramount; should a horse be deemed lame or unwell during a rally, the rider will be asked by a committee member or instructor to dismount and tend to the animal. We appreciate that such situations may be disappointing, but the safety and well-being of all members—both human and equine—are core values of DLPC.
All member families are required to contribute 20 hours per year to fundraising events (excluding rallies). Upon joining, each family must pay a $200 Volunteer Levy in addition to rider membership fees. Completion of the annual volunteer commitment exempts families from the levy in subsequent years. If the 20 hours are not fulfilled, an additional $200 levy will be applied alongside membership renewal for the following year.
If you have completed your initial visit and wish to participate in a "Come and Try" rally, please complete your registration using the following link: JOIN PONY CLUB. For first-time participants who have not previously joined a pony club, select "JOIN PONY CLUB" and choose DRYSDALE/LEOPOLD PONY CLUB when prompted. Enter the rider's details as requested; upon receipt, confirmation will be provided, allowing you to log back in and select a "COME AND TRY" membership.
Should you require assistance or have any questions throughout this process, please do not hesitate to contact us.
